A Vanished Dream
The original inspiration for this work came from Edvard Munch, who painted this painting called A Summer Night’s Dream in the same year that he painted The Scream. There is a woman in a long white dress near the forest in the painting. The forest behind the painting is called The Beray Forest, which is a particularly famous courtship place in Norway. I have learned from the information that this woman is Called Miliberg and is Munch’s first love. The couple broke up shortly after they were together in 1885, and the woman later married, but Edvard Munch doesn’t seem to have recovered from his breakup for a long time. This painting was painted seven years after their breakup. By this time Millie had been married to someone else for two years. Seven years later, One night, Munch saw Millie in his dream again. Artists often express their inner feelings in such a way to place their thoughts. After Edvard Munch painted this picture, he probably didn’t come out. I looked up related materials, and edvard Munch painted a second picture of a Summer Night’s Dream in 1896 after the first painting was completed. The two pictures are also very similar.
My inspiration comes from these two paintings and Edvard Munch’s emotional attachment to the painting, just like a love that cannot extricate itself but cannot be with her. Day has thought night has a dream, every time to the night comes will recall and that person together dribs and drabs. In the dream is so clear, but in real life is so far away. So I wanted to do this 20-second animation with a one-person perspective and make the whole scene look like a dream.
When I finally forget you, you appear in my dream. The dream was of silence the sea as deep blue as my heart, the waves hitting the rocks next to her and the cold water hitting her skirts. I stood quietly behind her, waiting for her to turn and look at me.
It was a gray day and I followed her to the sunflower garden where I had met her. It is a sunflower bush on the seashore, one can see the endless sea. In my dream, her face was so clear that I watched her gently pick up her skirt and dance in the sea of flowers, like an angel falling to earth. In the dream, you turned and extended your hand to me, and I looked in your eyes. Once awakened, the heart is torn.
Animation production process: I referred to a lot of paintings expressing very low mood, selected low saturation cold colors as the main color, and maintained the whole picture background under a cloudy day. In addition, the character and the sunflower in his hand are used as the only warm color in the picture, which sets off the hero’s longing and longing for the dreamboat. The overall picture adopts a perspective from part to whole, so that the viewer can better immerse himself in the picture and step by step walk into the painter. By contrast, the seaside on a cloudy day naturally presents a sad feeling, which is very close to the protagonist’s mood. After the plot of the story was determined, our team divided the work, one was responsible for the original painting, and the two were responsible for making the picture into a moving effect using Ae. After all the pictures are finished, piece together each chapter and add a mirror to make the picture more smooth and the viewing effect better.
Animation sound presentation: Through the main tone of the story, we use the guitar to pick the lower melody as the foistration. Background sound effects of sea and seabird sounds were added to make the overall video more layered by blending into the picture. At the end of the story, a bell is used as the end of the final story. The bright sound of the bell is in sharp contrast to the deep sound in front, which suddenly pulls viewers out of their dreams and back to reality.
Inspiration after the completion of the work: I learned a lot from the initial idea to how to state the whole picture, how to use cold and warm color difference and look for reference pictures. I made the picture more unified and learned to better communicate with team members. In the next time to do related animation can better use software, improve their own.
